Raven Rock Ramble 2022

Promoting Organ Donation Awareness and benefitting the UNC Kidney Center

The Raven Rock Ramble is a century (100-mile) bicycle ride that explores the four-county area (Wake, Harnett, Lee, and Chatham) around Raven Rock State Park. Proceeds benefit the UNC Kidney Center for direct patient services.  Since its start in 2002, the Raven Rock Ramble has raised over $365,000 toward kidney health and awareness.

The Raven Rock Ramble endorses cyclist safety and responsibility as promoted by The Peleton Project.

The 2021 Raven Rock Ramble turned out about as well as it could have. With ~620 riders, there were no real incidents of which I'm aware. While warm, it stayed dry at the park throughout the day and on the routes until late in the afternoon. At the finish, everyone seemed happy and well-fed. And, while I have yet to complete the accounting, I expecting to clear ~$30,000 for the UNC Kidney Center, bringing the 20-year total to a little under $400,000.

You may have heard that I'll be retiring from the Raven Rock Ramble after this year. I feel the ride has achieved what I wanted to accomplish, and there's a whole team in place to pick up the reins and carry on, headed by Bob Oderkirk and Doug Kline.

For now, know that next year's event is planned for Sunday, May 1, and registration to open on Saturday, December 4. As for me, I plan to continue app development and work with additional events in 2022. I'll be riding, too, and I hope I'll see you out on the road.
